Perseverance captured UFO on Mars? Scientists say it's just camera artifacts.
CTOnews.com, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) A mysterious black object appeared in the sky in a picture taken by the perseverance rover on Mars on Sunday.
This image, taken by perseverance's left navigation camera, shows the Martian ground covered with rocks, the sky is very hazy, and a black object is eye-catching. Some netizens say it may be a UFO, while others joke that it may be a plastic bag, but these are not true.
Dark objects in the sky don't actually exist, which is caused by a camera artifact called a "bad" pixel. "they are caused by micron debris on the detector," said imaging scientist Justin Maki. "most imagers have such artifacts, and they are usually noticed only when the camera takes images of the sky or some other flat radiation surface."
If you don't believe it, take a look at another image taken on Sunday by the Navcam camera on the left of Yili, which also shows dark stripes, but this time in the middle of a sandy landscape.
In fact, a black spot appeared in the sky in an image taken by Curiosity in early October.
Members of the perseverance photography team talked about the "strange little black spot" problem in a blog post last year, which has something to do with the Mars rover's mast camera.
