Epic launched a 3D scanning app on App Store and had a feud with Apple over "Fortnite".
CTOnews.com, December 2 (Xinhua)-- although Epic Games has dropped to a freezing point because of the relationship between the game "Fortnite" and Apple, it has launched a new app called RealityScan on App Store today. The app has been tested for months, allowing iPhone / iPad users to scan objects with cameras and automatically render high-fidelity 3D models.
CTOnews.com learned that the technology used in the app comes from Capturing Reality, which specializes in shooting and measuring solutions. Epic acquired the company in 2021 and launched the RealityScan software after more than a year of incubation. Epic says any user can create 3D models of real-world objects without the help of any advanced or complex tools.
Anyone who uses RealityScan software can create 3D models in just a few minutes according to the prompts of the application. All users need to do is photograph the object with their phone or tablet, and then the application does the rest of the work, converting the image into a 3D model through cloud processing.
RealityCapture is a state-of-the-art photogrammetric software that can reconstruct objects and scenes of any size from images or laser scans. It can not only produce highly accurate 3D models, but also render much faster than similar products.
