The first batch of equipment at TSMC's Arizona plant is coming soon, and Apple is expected to occupy 1/3 of its production capacity.

According to news on December 2, TSMC announced in May 2020 that construction of the Arizona plant, which officially began construction in June last year, will begin to move into the first batch of equipment after more than a year of construction, and will be put into operation in 2024 as planned.

Apple, a longtime customer of TSMC's fab in Arizona, is expected to remain one of the customers. Apple CEO Cook also said last month that they had decided to buy chips from a factory in Arizona. Although he did not specify the manufacturer, it was widely believed to be TSMC.

The latest foreign media reports show that about 1/3 of the production capacity of TSMC's Arizona plant will be used to manufacture related chips for Apple.

According to the plans announced by TSMC, its plant in Arizona plans to produce 20, 000 wafers a month, 1/3 of which will be used to contract for Apple, which means 6000 to 7000 wafers per month.

However, foreign media also mentioned in the report that even if Apple buys chips from TSMC's Arizona plant, it will not be used nearby for the production of equipment, but is still expected to be sent to Asia and eventually used for the assembly of related products.

TSMC's plant in Arizona plans to use the 5nm process to manufacture wafers for related customers when it is completed, but this plan is also likely to change. It has been reported that the 4nm process will be adopted after production.
