CTOnews.com, December 4 (Xinhua) Volkswagen will follow the example of Tesla, BMW and other automakers to export electric vehicles from China to Europe, citing limited production capacity in its home market, Bloomberg reported.

Volkswagen said on Friday that its Spanish brand Cupra would produce its first electric SUV Tavascan at a joint venture plant in Anhui. CTOnews.com learned that the model, which is based on the same MEB platform as the ID.x family, will enter the European market in 2024, and this is Cupra's second model based on the MEB platform.

"when making production plans, the Anhui plant is a factory with the right capacity and technology," Volkswagen said in a statement, but added that it had no current plans to produce other export models in China.

Volkswagen is developing its five-year financial plan to decide which factories to produce which new models and how much money to invest in these new factories / models by the middle of the century.

It is worth mentioning that there are already a number of car companies selling Chinese-made models in Europe, such as Tesla Model 3 / Y, BMW iX3 and Renault Dacia Spring. PricewaterhouseCoopers recently predicted that carmakers will import 800000 cars into Europe from China.
