CTOnews.com learned that officials said it was a temporary rule designed to slow the influx of answers created using ChatGPT. The reason for this limitation is that the average rate of getting correct answers from ChatGPT is too low, so posting answers created by ChatGPT is very harmful to the site and users who query for correct answers.

Although the answers generated by ChatGPT have a high error rate, they usually look good, and the answers are easy to produce. There are also many people who try to use ChatGPT to create answers, but have no expertise or willingness to verify that the answers are correct before publishing.

The number of these answers (thousands) and the content usually need to be read carefully by people with at least some subject matter expertise to determine whether the answers are useful, which places a heavy burden on Stack Overflow's voluntary inspection-based infrastructure. Therefore, we need to reduce the number of these posts, and it is more effective to refuse to post such responses from the user's source.

Therefore, it is not currently allowed to use ChatGPT to create posts on Stack Overflow. If a user is believed to have used ChatGPT after the publication of this interim rule, sanctions will be imposed to prevent the user from posting such content, even if the posts are otherwise acceptable.
