News of a multibillion-dollar new investment by Samsung emerged shortly after South Korea and Vietnam announced plans for a "comprehensive strategic partnership" earlier this week. In addition, LG also plans to increase its investment in Vietnam.

It is reported that about half of Samsung's smartphones are made in Vietnam, and Vietnamese officials have revealed that Samsung intends to increase its investment in the country by $2 billion, totaling $20 billion (currently about 139.4 billion yuan).

Samsung declined to comment on the investment, but Reuters quoted sources as saying the $2 billion investment would be completed by the end of 2022. South Korea and Vietnam hope to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2023, up from $78 billion in 2021. The goal of the two countries is to increase bilateral trade to US $150 billion by 2023.

According to the latest news, LG, which has abandoned its mobile phone business, also plans to increase its investment in Vietnam, spending another $4 billion on the production of smartphone cameras in the country. Vietnam will become the main center of LG smartphone camera manufacturing.
