CTOnews.com The Google Photos app has long supported estimating location information based on landmarks detected in photos, as well as information about your location in other photos. Google previously relied mainly on Google Account Location History, but Google will now delete these estimated information.

Google said it is investing heavily in the ability to identify landmarks in images in apps such as Google Lens and Maps Live View, and will no longer call Google Account Location History to estimate where users are taking photos. You can easily manage your location settings from Google Photos at any time.

Google says it will see notifications in the Google Photos app in the coming months telling users to "keep" or "delete" information about the location of photos estimated using Google Account Location History. Users have until May 1, 2023 to make a decision, after which Google will automatically delete the information by default.
