CTOnews.com Microsoft announced on December 8 that OneNote on Windows will introduce vertical tabs next year. Microsoft says the feature isn't in much demand for ordinary users, but educators and students are clamoring for it.

Mike Tholfsen, chief group product manager for Microsoft Education, wrote in a blog post: "We hear a lot of educators and students want OneNote on Windows (Desktop) to introduce vertical tabs and make its interface look like OneNote for Windows 10. Educator feedback is a priority, so we're excited to announce that OneNote on Windows will introduce vertical tabs in early 2023, allowing users to manage information like notes, chapters, and pages."

CTOnews.com has learned that OneNote for Windows 10, Web, Mac, and iPad support the left vertical tab view. However, OneNote for Windows 10 is currently removed from the Microsoft Store, and the latest version of OneNote on Windows does not include this view feature.
