In the settings, the sidebar has a new performance menu. Memory saving mode can "free memory from inactive tags" so that active tags have the "smoothest experience", and other running applications also have access to more computer resources. An inactive tag will remain visible, and when an inactive tag is reopened, it will automatically reload.

On the right side of the address bar, the Chrome browser will use an icon to indicate "memory saving mode is on". Clicking will tell you how much KB memory has been freed for other tags. Google says that "Chrome browsers can use up to 30% less memory," or you can turn off the mode from this prompt.

There is a list of "keep these sites active at all times" under the settings switch, and Google recommends using memory saving mode to "keep your active videos and game tabs running smoothly".

At the same time, you can reduce power consumption and extend battery life by enabling power-saving mode, and Chrome browsers do this by limiting background activity and image refresh rates. Visual effects, such as animation, smooth scrolling, and video frame rate, will also be reduced.

Google points out that you "may notice changes in game and video performance". The power saving mode can be turned on manually at any time, or only when the battery is at 20% or lower or when the power supply is unplugged.
