It is reported that Tata Group plans to occupy a key part of the global chip supply chain. Semiconductor manufacturing requires a lot of investment, Chandrasekaran said. Tata plans to invest $90 billion (about 626.4 billion yuan) over the next five years.

He said that Tata Electronics had been established and that a semiconductor assembly and testing business would be set up under the company and would be discussed with a number of companies. He also revealed that Tata will "study the possibility of eventually launching an upstream chip manufacturing platform."

Chandrasekaran has previously said the reshaping of global supply chains is a huge opportunity for India. While demand for semiconductor-intensive products such as smartphones and electric cars is growing rapidly, there is little semiconductor industry in India except for the software design industry. Chandrasekaran believes that the market value of high-tech electronics is as high as trillions of dollars, and Tata must seize this opportunity.

In addition to semiconductors, the company plans to launch new businesses in emerging areas such as electric vehicles, including the manufacture of electric cars and batteries, the production of renewable energy and the development of one-stop "super applications".

Tata Group is the largest group company in India, with commercial operations in seven areas: communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemical products.
