CTOnews.com, Dec. 13 (Xinhua)-- the top adviser to the French data protection agency sanctions agency issued a recommendation to the French Information Protection Committee (CNIL) on Monday that Apple will face a fine of 6 million euros (44.16 million yuan) for violating privacy rules. While the CNIL can reject the proposal, it usually has a big impact on the regulator's final decision.

Francois Pellegrini (Francois Pellegrini), the rapporteur of Tu Yuan Unsplash, made his suggestion after an investigation by the French authorities, which was triggered by a complaint from the lobby group France Digitale last year.

CTOnews.com learned that in the complaint, the lobby group representing most French digital entrepreneurs and venture capitalists claimed that iOS 14, the former operating software of Apple, the maker of iPhone, did not meet EU privacy requirements.

Apple's privacy update, called App Tracking Transparency, gives users the option to block apps from tracking activity across apps and websites owned by other companies.

In his statement, Pellegrini said that Apple's previous version of the operating system, iOS 14.6, failed to properly solicit users' prior consent for the collection of personal data, thus violating privacy rules under the EU ePrivacy directive.

He added that changes made in subsequent versions of Apple's operating system iOS 15 allowed such prior consent. Gary Gary Davis, Apple's privacy director, challenged the rapporteur's conclusions at the hearing, saying the US company was committed to protecting user privacy.
