CTOnews.com December 13 news, the International Association of Semiconductor equipment and Materials (SEMI) released a report on December 12 local time, saying that the global semiconductor industry is expected to invest more than $500 billion (about 3.49 trillion yuan) in 84 large-scale chip manufacturing plants that will begin construction between 2021 and 2023.

The report points out that these market segments, including cars and high-performance computing, will drive spending growth. Growth is expected to include 33 new factories to start construction this year and 28 new ones expected to be added in 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that the SEMI report covered data from seven regions, as follows:

From 2021 to next year, 18 new factories / production lines are expected to be built in America.

The Chinese mainland region is expected to have more new chip manufacturing plants than any other region, with 20 factories / production lines planned to support mature processes.

It is expected that 14 new factories / production lines will be built in Taiwan.

17 Fab plants will start construction in Europe / Middle East between 2021 and 2023

Japan and Southeast Asia are expected to start construction of six new plants / production lines respectively during the forecast period.

South Korea is expected to start building three large factories / production lines.
