CTOnews.com, December 16 (Reuters)-Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume said on Friday that Volkswagen will soon make a decision on the location of its planned battery plant in Eastern Europe and begin looking for new sites in Canada.

"A decision on the location of [battery plants] in Eastern Europe will be made soon, and in Canada, we will soon start looking for locations," Oliver Blume said at a special shareholders' meeting in Berlin.

Volkswagen will focus on producing batteries at factories built in Europe and will develop CTP battery technology similar to that of the Ningde era, according to The Elec.

CTOnews.com has learned that Volkswagen will complete its battery plant in Salzjit, Germany, and then build another battery plant in Spain and other parts of Europe.

PowerCo, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, oversees the development and production of batteries. Volkswagen has previously introduced unified prismatic batteries, which it says will be used in 80% of its electric vehicles by 2030.
