CTOnews.com, December 16, 2020, Samsung signed an agreement with Verizon to provide the US network operator with a 5G vRAN solution and help the operator build a 5G network. With Samsung support, Verizon will have more than 8000 operational vRAN sites in the United States by August 2022. The two brands have now reached a new milestone. Samsung announced that it has deployed more than 10, 000 vRAN sites for Verizon and aims to meet the operator's goal of deploying 20, 000 vRAN sites by 2025.

According to Sanxing, its vRAN solution "allows operators to perform network functions and provide services that are impossible or difficult to achieve with traditional RAN. Our vRAN conforms to the O-RAN standard and can run 2G, 4G and 5G networks, as well as 4G and 5G at the same time. Virtualized RAN is eco-friendly and can reduce power consumption by reducing or turning off the energy required on antennas, amplifiers and base stations."

Earlier this month, operator Verizon announced that it now offers 5G UW (Ultra Broadband) services to more than 175 million people in the United States. The company aims to provide 5G UWB services nationwide by the first quarter of 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that while Verizon partnered with Samsung to achieve its 5G coverage goals, the company also partnered with Ericsson to provide 5G vRAN solutions (Ericsson Cloud RAN). On Thursday, Verizon operators announced that they had deployed their first Ericsson vRAN base station in the United States.
