CTOnews.com, December 20, Fuji Film has announced plans to build a plant in Korea to produce advanced materials for semiconductor manufacturing. The new plant will have cutting-edge manufacturing capacity and state-of-the-art evaluation equipment to be able to produce high-quality and high-performance products.

According to reports, the plant, located in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, is built by Fujifilm Electronic Materials Korea Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Fuji Film Co., Ltd., and is expected to be put into operation in the spring of 2024.

The factory will produce sensor filters for image sensors and will become the company's second manufacturing plant in South Korea. CTOnews.com learned that Fuji's first plant in South Korea, located in Cheonan, mainly produces chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) pastes.

Although Fuji did not specify whether the new plant would directly affect the image sensors used in its X-series and GFX series camera systems. But based on internal data, it will produce 80% of the world's color filter materials for image sensors.

Fuji Film said the plant, together with its two other color filter factories in Japan and Taiwan, will use its "advanced functional molecular technology and nanotechnology" to "steadily produce and distribute high-quality image sensor filter materials".
