CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua)-- it was reported in August that Apple is in talks to produce the Apple Watch and MacBook in Vietnam for the first time. According to the Nikkei News, Apple will start producing the Macbook in Vietnam in mid-2023.

Foxconn, Apple's largest supplier, began producing MacBook in Southeast Asian countries as early as May, according to people familiar with the matter. Apple has been trying to diversify its supply chain, but it takes longer for MacBook production to shift because of the more complex supply chain needed to make laptops.

"after the transfer of MacBook production, basically all Apple's flagship products will have one more production base outside China. For example, India has iPhone and MacBook, Vietnam has Apple Watch and iPad," the source said.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple currently produces about 20 million to 24 million MacBook a year, mainly in Chengdu, Sichuan and Shanghai.

In June, Apple moved some iPad production from China to Vietnam for the first time in its history due to strict epidemic control in Shanghai and surrounding areas. In May, Apple CEO Cook said in response to the question of adding more Vietnamese companies to Apple's industrial chain that Apple was interested in working with Vietnamese manufacturers that met the company's standards.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment from Nikkei Asia. Foxconn declined to comment.
