CTOnews.com learned that KDE neon is a Ubuntu-based Linux distribution with a KDE Plasma desktop environment. The distribution was developed by KDE and includes a 64-bit version of the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment / framework, Qt 5 toolkit, and other compatible KDE software.

Because it is also based on Ubuntu and KDE desktop environments, KDE neon is often confused with Kubuntu. However, the main difference between the two operating systems is that Kubuntu maintains both the stable version of Ubuntu and the LTS version, while KDE neon focuses on updating the developer version of KDE applications without the original stable version of Ubuntu, unless superusers actively choose to upgrade their systems.
