Foreign shoppers were found buying large quantities of iPhone in some Apple stores, at least one of which involved one person buying hundreds of phones at the same time, while the store did not tax at least one suspected dealer, according to a person familiar with the matter with iPhone 14 Pro. Japan stipulates that tourists who stay in the country for less than six months do not have to pay a 10 per cent consumption tax on goods, but this exemption does not apply to purchases for resale purposes.

Apple Japan suspended duty-free shopping in June and filed a revised tax return, which the company has yet to comment.

Apple CEO Tim Cook (Tim Cook) visited Japan earlier this month and announced that the company had invested more than $100 billion in the Japanese supply network over the past five years.
