CTOnews.com December 31, Nvidia DLSS 2.5.1 made its debut in the Portal RTX patch update released last week. Nvidia said that sharpening filters are no longer built in the new version of DLSS, and game developers are advised to use NVIDIA Image Scaling sharpening in the future.

There is a problem of oversharpening in some games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War, and some high-end players optimize it mainly by modifying DLSS SDK.dll files or Hex editors.

Nvidia officials say DLSS 2.5.1 has abandoned the built-in sharpening solution, and developers are recommended to use NVIDIA Image Scaling sharpening, which can lead to better image quality. NIS can provide better sharpening technology, as well as cross-platform advantages.

CTOnews.com learned that the release of NVIDIA Image Scaling (NIS) in November 2021 was a major upgrade to previous image scaling technology. The new algorithm uses a 6-tap filter with four directions for adaptive sharpening. And scaling and sharpening occur in the same pass, so performance can be greatly improved.
