CTOnews.com, January 4 (Xinhua)-- Joshua Strobl, a former Solus project leader and Budgie desktop maintainer, announced today via social media that the official Fedora Budgie Spin with the latest Budgie desktop environment will be officially launched at the end of April / early May this year along with the official version of Fedora 38.

The Budgie desktop is an independently developed desktop environment for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems, originally created by Ikey Doherty for the Solus distribution. Budgie is now actively maintained by a team of contributors led by Joshua Strobl and can be used for distributions such as Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora Linux.

CTOnews.com learned that users can install the Budgie desktop environment on Fedora Linux, but previously users could not specifically install Fedora Budgie on their computers through Live ISO images.

After the release of Fedora 38 at the end of April or early May this year, the official Fedora Budgie Spin version will be available, which can be downloaded from the official Spins page of Fedora.

The Fedora Engineering steering Committee (FESCo) has accepted Fedora Budgie Spin's change proposal today, which states: "the goal of Budgie Desktop is to become a feature-rich modern desktop that provides a unique way to interact with the system (such as widgets and notification center Raven) while bringing users closer with its default more traditional look and feel."
