Fixes more than 20 security vulnerabilities, Canonical releases major Ubuntu kernel security updates
CTOnews.com, January 7, Canonical today released a kernel security update for all supported Ubuntu Linux distributions, which fixes more than 20 security vulnerabilities discovered by several researchers in the upstream kernel.
The new kernel security updates are available for Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu), Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa), Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), and Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 14.04 ESM (extended Security maintenance) versions.
CTOnews.com learned that the most critical security vulnerability in these large-scale Ubuntu kernel updates was CVE-2022-2663, which was discovered by David Leadbeater in the netfilter IRC protocol tracking implementation.
The vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service or bypass the firewall. Except for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 16.04 ESM, and Ubuntu 14.04 ESM systems running Linux kernel 4.15, all Ubuntu versions are affected.
