CTOnews.com learned that Apple says the original Safari loads web pages on Mac more than three times faster than Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. During the release of OS X Panther with Safari between 1998 and October 2003, Internet Explorer was the default browser for Mac as part of a five-year agreement between Apple and Microsoft.

"Safari is the fastest browser on Mac, and we predict that many people will think it is the best browser ever," Jobs said in a January 2003 press release. We are bringing innovation back to this category with the first brand new browser we have created in years.

In January 2003, the public beta version of Safari was released on OS X Jaguar, and its main features include the WebKit rendering engine to improve browsing speed, Google search function integrated directly into the toolbar, improved bookmark management, optional pop-up ad blocking, easier file download process, and more.

The mobile version of Safari was released on iPhone in 2007 and on iPad in 2010. The browser continues to use WebKit on all Apple platforms.
