Alibaba plans to build a logistics hub and data center in Turkey, with an investment of more than 1 billion US dollars.

CTOnews.com, January 8, according to Reuters, Michael Evans, president of Alibaba Group, said during a visit to Turkish Media Group (Turkuvaz Media Group) that the company is planning to build a logistics center at Istanbul airport and a data center near Ankara, the Turkish capital, with an investment of more than 1 billion US dollars.

"We have thought about investing in Europe and the Middle East, but we need a very strong production base. When I was doing research, I saw a lot of capacity in this place. I believe in Turkey." Evans mentioned that Alibaba invested in the Turkish e-commerce platform Trendyol. "the reason we chose Trendyol is that its technology has been developed and has great potential." He explained that 97 per cent of the 300000 sellers in Trendyol were small and medium-sized enterprises.

CTOnews.com learned that Alibaba acquired Trendyol in 2018. In April 2021, Alibaba invested an additional $350 million in Trendyol, increasing its shareholding to 86.5 per cent.
