Gurman: Apple engineers are focusing on polishing xrOS, resulting in a significant reduction in the size of iOS / iPadOS 17 updates

CTOnews.com, January 9 (Xinhua) Bloomberg Mark Mark Gurman said in his latest Power On newsletter that the focus of Apple's engineering team has now shifted to xrOS, resulting in an update of iOS 17, internally codenamed "Dawn,"much smaller than expected."

CTOnews.com small class, xrOS is a system specially built by Apple for AR / VR head display devices. The word "xr" means "extended reality", which is reasonable from the point of view of integrating AR / VR.

Apple also applied for the trademark "realityOS" system before. Foreign science and technology media 9to5Mac learned through internal channels that "realityOS" and "xrOS" two systems coexist. The former is based on iOS platform, and the latter is based on macOS platform. It's just not clear what the difference will be between the two systems.

Apple plans to launch its first head display device this year, so Apple's engineering team has focused on polishing xrOS / realityOS systems, naturally reducing the effort to update iOS / iPadOS systems.

IOS 14, announced in 2020, and iOS 16, announced last June, are two important updates, bringing redesigned widgets to iPhone home screens and application libraries, new features in inventory applications such as maps and Safari, redesigning lock screens, and so on.
