CTOnews.com, January 9, Linus Torvalds today released the third candidate version update of Linux Kernel 6.2 a few hours earlier. Torvalds said that after the holiday, work was on track and the overall development state was "starting to look more normal."

CTOnews.com learned that kernel developers and testers are now back to work, Torvalds said in the 6.2-rc3 mailing list:

We finished another week's work. After the holiday week that made rc2 updates very small, development work has become much more normal.

Linux Kernel 6.2-rc3 is not particularly prominent: mostly driver fixes (network, GPU, block, Virtio, but also usb, fbdev, rdma, etc., so a little bit of everything). This should be, and matches most of the code.

In addition to various driver fixes, we have also improved the core network, fixed some file systems (btrfs, cifs, f2fs, and nfs), and some perf tool work.

This week there were some graphics driver fixes for Intel and AMD, added support for Intel's RAPL code Emerald Rapids and Meteor lake, fixed some memory leaks, and other improvements throughout the kernel.
