CTOnews.com, January 10 (Xinhua)-- Volkswagen has announced a recall of more than 1000 ID.4 electric crossovers in the United States because of potential fire hazards.

Volkswagen said that in the ID.4 rear-wheel drive model, the charging cable of the 12V battery may rub against the steering column and may cause a short circuit if the insulation is worn out. If it is not solved, it may bring fire risk.

▲ Volkswagen ID.4, Tuyuan Volkswagen CTOnews.com, learned that the recall covers only 1042 electric vehicles produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 2022-2023, excluding the four-wheel drive version.

Volkswagen said the problem was that the cable was not bent correctly during production and could cause it to come into contact with the steering column. The cables affected are low-voltage cables, so there is no risk of high-voltage shock to the occupants or maintenance technicians, but the risk of potential damage to the steering system cannot be ruled out.
