Samsung released new PM9C1a SSD: 70% increase in energy efficiency, optional 2230-2280 specifications

CTOnews.com, January 12, according to Samsung's official news, Samsung announced today that it is ready for production of the high-performance PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (solid state drive)-- PM9C1a. The PM9C1a is a new memory product based on Samsung's 5 nm (nm) high-end technology and the seventh generation of V-NAND technology, which will significantly improve the computing and gaming performance of PC (personal computers) and laptops.

According to reports, Samsung's PM9C1a makes full use of the PCIe 4.0interface. Compared with its previous generation storage product PM9B1, Samsung has 1.6 times faster sequential read speed and 1.8 times faster sequential write speed. The test values are as high as 6000MB/s and 5600MB/s, respectively, and the random read and write speed is as high as 900K IOPS (input / output per second) and 1000K IOPS.

In terms of energy efficiency, PM9C1a is 70% more energy efficient than its predecessors, which means that the new SSD is dealing with the same number of tasks. When the laptop enters standby mode, the SSD's energy consumption is reduced by about 10%.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung PM9C1a SSDs will offer a variety of capacity options, such as 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, with a specification of M.2 (22mm x 30mm, 22mm x 42mm, 22mm x 80mm).
