CTOnews.com, January 13 (Xinhua)-- Market research firm Data.ai (formerly App Annie) recently released the 2023 Mobile Market report, which shows that players are spending less on mobile games, leading to a decline in revenue from mobile games in almost all app stores.

In the report, mobile users spent $110 billion on mobile apps and games in 2022, down 5 per cent from a year earlier. However, the number of downloads of mobile games is close to 90 billion, a significant increase from 2021.

CTOnews.com learned that mobile games accounted for more than 60 per cent of revenue, while the number of games with revenues of more than $10 million, $100m and $1 billion fell 1 per cent, 4 per cent and 33 per cent respectively from a year earlier. However, some games such as Diablo Immortal and APEX Legends Mobile have achieved great success in the internal purchase of the game.

In 2022, role-playing games topped the list in some ways, with downloads up 3.9% year-on-year, but intra-app purchase spending fell 8.3% year-on-year. They account for 31 per cent of all such expenditures and 3 per cent of all downloads.

Young players spend the most time on games such as parties, simulations and shooters. Creative sandboxie games such as "Roblox" and "Minecraft" led the increase in game duration, increasing by 25 per cent from 2021 to 2022.

Non-games include financial, retail, video streaming, social and other categories. Even as disposable income levels fall, apps remain resilient and consumers spend more than ever before.

In 2022, video streaming applications ranked first in terms of downloads and consumer spending, with 2.9 billion downloads and 738 billion hours of use.

Netflix had the highest number of downloads (3.6%), while Disney+ had the highest consumer spending (16%). However, "Netflix" is the most searched keyword in App Store in many countries.
