Will not produce its own screens, sources say that Apple and LG are customizing the production of microLED screens for Apple Watch.

CTOnews.com, January 14, Ross Young, CEO of screen supply chain consulting firm DSCC, said in his latest tweet that Apple's customized microLED screen for the subsequent Apple Watch will be produced by LG.

CTOnews.com learned that Young tweeted that LG Display was building a small-scale production line to provide Apple with microLED screens. Apple is expected to switch to microLED screens in its Apple Watch in the spring of 2025.

Young said LG Display will begin mass production in the second half of 2024 to supply Apple with microLED panels and assemble Apple Watch screen components for Apple.

Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple will transition from Apple Watch Ultra's microLED display at the end of 2024 to its own custom display, with the long-term goal of reducing its dependence on display suppliers such as Samsung and LG. Young believes that Apple will continue to rely to some extent on such partners. "Apple will not make its own screens entirely," Young said.
