As the penetration of the folding mobile phone market increases, the hinge market is expected to be worth more than $500m (currently about 3.355 billion yuan) in 2023, an increase of 14.6 per cent year-on-year.

TrendForce Jibang Consulting said that according to the shape, hinges can be divided into water droplets and U-shaped designs. Because the hinge parts of water drop design are many and the cost is several times that of U-type design, when the penetration rate of folding mobile phones increases, the smartphone brand factory that uses water drop hinges will face the first problem is cost pressure.

According to reports, according to the brand market share of folding mobile phones in 2022, the highest market share of Sanxing with U-shaped hinges is about 82%, while most of Samsung's collapsible mobile phone hinges are provided by KH Vatech, S-connect and other suppliers, synchronously and actively introduce other manufacturers to achieve supply chain diversification and reduce costs. The water drop type is used by other brand factories, with a total market share of nearly 20%, and the hinges are provided by Amfino, Qiyi and other manufacturers.
