Tesla beat Volkswagen to win the top sales of electric vehicles in Germany in 2022.

According to foreign media reports, Tesla beat its long-time rival Volkswagen to become the country's largest electric vehicle brand in 2022.

Tesla sold 69962 pure electric vehicles in Germany in 2022, while its nearest rival, Volkswagen, sold 63206 electric vehicles, according to KBA, the German vehicle registration agency.

Since entering the European market, Model 3 and Model Y have achieved remarkable success in sales, and they have even become the best-selling models in many markets.

In September 2022, Tesla Model Y beat Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Tiguan for the first time to become the best-selling car in Germany, the first time in German history that electric cars sold more than any other gasoline car on the market.

In November 2022, Model 3 replaced Model Y as the best-selling electric car in Germany. Car registration tracking data from German agencies show that 6811 Model 3 were sold in Germany that month.

According to KBA, the top three cars sold in Germany in December 2022 were Tesla Model 3, Fiat 500 and Tesla Model Y.

In addition, the Model Y and Model 3 are also the best-selling electric vehicles in Germany in 2022. By selling the two models, the company accounts for 14.9 per cent of the electric vehicle market.
