CTOnews.com, January 20 (Xinhua)-- Uber is working with automakers to design lower-cost electric vehicles for ride-hailing and delivery services, according to the Wall Street Journal. This is part of the Uber team's electrification efforts.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said at an event on Thursday that the company is working with manufacturers to develop vehicles optimized for urban use, passenger transport and delivery. For online ride-hailing, this includes passenger cars with a lower maximum speed and passengers can sit face to face.

CTOnews.com learned that Khosrowshahi pointed out that he does believe that the top speed of many passenger cars is not necessary for urban drivers related to ride-hailing. "this can reduce the configuration, if you reduce the configuration, you can reduce the final cost."

As for trucks, Khosrowshahi said the company is considering smaller two-or three-wheeled vehicles with cargo space that can travel more easily.
