CTOnews.com, January 22 (Xinhua) during the 2023 Game developers Conference (GDC), a questionnaire conducted by the organizers showed that game developers' interest in meta-universe and blockchain has declined significantly. This is very different from the same survey conducted by the organizers in 2022.

GDC surveyed 2300 professional game developers, of whom 2/3 had more than 3 years of experience, with the longest for more than 20 years.

CTOnews.com learned that 45 per cent of developers surveyed said they no longer believed the meta-universe concept would come true, while only 7 per cent supported it. In a survey conducted in 2022, 33% of developers said they did not believe in the success of the meta-universe concept, an increase of 12 percentage points.

Epic Games / Fortnite had the highest trust, with 14% of respondents supporting it, while Microsoft / Minecraft got 7%, the same as Meta / Horizon Worlds.

In answering this question, developers cited a number of reasons for their lack of confidence in the concept of meta-universe, such as its "unclear definition" and high hardware costs, as well as the lack of "substantive interactivity" provided so far.

Twenty-three percent of the developers surveyed said their studios expressed "some interest" in using cryptocurrencies, heterogeneous tokens (NFT) and Web3 to support their games. This is down 4% from 2022.

17% of game developers said they would prefer to use blockchain technology in future games, while 61% opposed it. 25% said they were unsure or had no opinion.
