Microsoft Edge browser has another controversial action: force the creation of shortcuts on the desktop

CTOnews.com January 22, Microsoft has previously used some controversial ways to recommend users to use its Microsoft Edge browser. And a new Microsoft initiative has once again sparked user controversy, forcing the creation of Edge shortcuts on the desktop.

Even if the user has configured Edge browser as the default browser and pinned it to the Start menu or Taskbar, it will be forced to add Edge after detecting that there is no shortcut to Edge on the desktop.

In the Reddit community abroad, many users reported this issue. User feedback Every time Microsoft Edge updates, desktop shortcuts are recreated.

CTOnews.com includes a temporary solution to fix the above problem, which requires modification of the registry, so it is recommended to make a backup before doing so. Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate.

Then create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named Create DesktopShortcutDefault and assign it to 0. Desktop shortcuts should no longer be created after restarting your computer.
