CTOnews.com, January 22 (Xinhua) Apple's M2 Max, which can be equipped with up to 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU, looks very powerful, but its GPU lost to the RTX 4070 GPU equipped on laptops in the OpenCL benchmark.

Given that the latest Mac mini cannot be configured with M2 Max, the device that appears in Geekbench 5 is likely to be the new 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro, but OpenCL results show that its GPU is inferior to RTX 4070, which is installed in a Samsung laptop with a 14-core 20-thread Intel Core i9-13900HK processor.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung notebooks scored 102130 points in the OpenCL benchmark, while the M2 Max with 38-core GPU scored only 75139 points, with a performance gap of 35%, and that the power limit of RTX 4070 in Samsung notebooks was not mentioned on Geekbench 5, which means that slightly thicker game notebooks are likely to gain a bigger lead if they have stronger heat dissipation systems.

It is important to point out that the OpenCL score of Geekbench 5 does not accurately represent real-world performance.

However, the new MacBook Pro is sure to surpass the Samsung laptop in terms of battery life, and according to Apple, its larger 16-inch MacBook Pro has the highest battery life of any portable Mac so far, with 22 hours on a single charge.
