CTOnews.com January 24 news, Apple in the launch of the M2 Max MacBook Pro said that the chip is equipped with a more powerful media engine, specifically for processing video. Brian Tong, a foreign digital channel, made a measured comparison of Media Processing Service to see how much faster M2 Max is in processing ProRes than its predecessor.

Apple said in its MacBook Pro launch video that compared to the M1 Max, the M2 Max's media engine "doubles support for ProRes, significantly speeding up media playback and transcoding."

CTOnews.com learned that Brian Tong conducted multiple tests on Mac Studio with M1 Ulta and MacBook Pro with M1 Max to test the M2 Max MacBook Pro.

Final test results confirmed Apple's official claims. The M2 Max's dedicated dual ProRes encoding and decoding engine provides impressive features.

In the Final Cut Pro 10.6.3 video export test, M2 Max export time was 40 seconds, while M1 Max export time was 78 seconds, which is about one-half the export time of M1 Max. But impressively, it's even seven seconds faster than the M1 Ultra.
