Lithography giant ASML CEO talks about higher-than-expected gross profit margin: factory fire in Berlin leads to additional upgrades and insurance compensation
CTOnews.com January 26 news, ASML yesterday released the fourth quarter of 2022 and full-year results. For the whole of 2022, ASML's net sales reached 21.2 billion euros (currently about 156.668 billion yuan), gross profit was 50.5%, and net profit was 5.6 billion euros (currently about 41.384 billion yuan). Revenue deferred to 2023 from the fast shipping process in 2022 is about 3.1 billion euros (currently about 22.909 billion yuan).
Peter Wennink, president and CEO of ASML, said: "net sales in the fourth quarter were 6.4 billion euros (currently about 47.296 billion yuan), reaching the middle of the expected range. Gross profit margin was 51.5%, higher than expected, mainly due to additional upgrades and insurance compensation caused by last year's ASML plant fire in Berlin."
According to reports, ASML continued to maintain strong growth in 2022, with net sales of 21.2 billion euros and gross profit margin of 50.5%. Outstanding orders reached an all-time high of 40.4 billion euros (currently about 298.556 billion yuan) at the end of 2022.
CTOnews.com learned that Peter Wennink noted: "there is still uncertainty in the market due to inflation, rising interest rates, the risk of recession and geopolitical export controls. But our customers say the market is expected to rebound in the second half of this year. Given the order delivery date and the strategic significance of investment in lithography systems, market demand will continue to be strong."
ASML bought back about 300m euros (currently about 2.217 billion yuan) of shares in the fourth quarter, based on previously completed share buyback programmes and 2022-2025 share buyback programmes, according to the data. ASML plans to announce a total dividend of 5.80 euros per common share (currently about 43 yuan) in 2022, up 5.5% from a year earlier.
