The code name of "isolated Island 7" is Project Blackbird, while the code name of multiplayer game is Project Maverick. He said that both projects were led by Ubisoft's Toronto studio, with the participation of Ubisoft's Montreal studio.

It is said that the projects were originally developed as a single game under the vision of Dan Hay, a longtime senior producer of isolated Island, but when he left Ubisoft to join Blizzard, he was split into two games.

The locations of both games are set in Alaska. It is worth mentioning that as early as 2015, Ubisoft asked fans if they wanted to play an extreme survival "island shock" in as far away as Alaska.
