Fedora 38 will be equipped with the latest compiler tool chain, including GCC 13

CTOnews.com The Fedora Engineering and Steering Committee (FESCo) has signed off on the Fedora 38 release plan, which includes the planned cutting-edge compiler toolchain, most notably the GCC 13 compiler.

Fedora has long focused on providing the latest upstream GNU compiler toolchain components. With Fedura's April/Spring release approaching, the team hopes to bring the latest annual GNU Compiler Collection release. Fedora 38 has been granted permission to release GCC 13 and other up-to-date open source compiler toolchain packages.

The compiler toolchain package is as follows:

GNU C Compiler 13.0

C++ (libstdc++), Go (gccgo), OpenMP (gomp), Fortran (gfortran), D (phobos), Objective C / C++ runtime dependencies.

GNU Debugger 12.1 (available in Fedora 37)

CTOnews.com understands GCC 13 brings a number of notable new features, including support for AMD Zen 4"znver4," support for upcoming Intel CPUs,(e.g. Granite Rapids / Sierra Forest / Grand Ridge / Meteor Lake), more C23 and C++23 feature implementations, improved C++20 and C++23 feature support in libstdc++, OpenMP reverse offload and other new OpenMP 5.1/5.2 features, GCC LTO now supports GNU Make job server with named pipes by default, AMD Instinct MI200 offload support, additional RISC-V connectivity extensions, and more.

Binutils 2.39 brings warning notifications when the stack is executable, a new "--package-metadata: option, syntax highlighting of disassembler output, and other changes.

Glibc 2.37 will be released in the next few days, with more AVX-512 tweaks and other improvements.

Fedora 38 aims to be released by the end of April.
