CTOnews.com, February 1 (Xinhua)-- Boeing announced in December last year that the last 747s had been taken off the line from the Everett plant on December 6 and would be delivered to the US cargo carrier Atlas Airlines.

On January 31, local time, Boeing and Atlas Airlines celebrated the delivery of the last 747 with thousands of guests, including former and current employees, customers and suppliers, marking the end of more than half a century of production history of this aircraft.

CTOnews.com learned that Boeing said that Boeing employees who had worked on the design and manufacture of the first 747s had returned to the Everett plant. The journey began in 1967, and the plant built a total of 1574 aircraft throughout the project.

According to reports, as the world's first dual-aisle aircraft and super-large aircraft, Boeing 747 has the reputation of "queen of the air". Boeing also continues to improve its original design, launching the 747-400 in 1988 and launching the 747-8 in 2005.

Data show that the Boeing 747, also known as the "Big Mac" (Jumbo Jet), is the world's first mass-produced wide-body civil aircraft, manufactured by the Boeing Civil aircraft Group of the United States. The prototype of the Boeing 747 is twice the size of the widely used Boeing 707 in the 1960s, and the wingspan is longer than the Wright brothers' first flight. Since it went into service in 1970 and before the A380 went into service in 2007, the Boeing 747 held the record for the highest carrying aircraft in the world for 37 years.
