Samsung Galaxy S23 series does not support satellite communications, officials say it is too early
CTOnews.com February 2, Huawei Mate 50 and Apple iPhone 14 series already support satellite communications, but Samsung Galaxy S23 series just released does not provide this feature unexpectedly.
In response, TM Roh, president and head of the mobile experience business of Samsung, admitted that he was interested in satellite communications on smartphones and would bring it. But he also believes that this is too early, because the satellite function on today's mobile phones is still quite limited.
TM Roh said: "when the right time, infrastructure and technology are ready, then of course for Samsung Galaxy, for our mobile division, we will actively consider adopting this feature."
CTOnews.com learned that Qualcomm launched its first Snapdragon satellite on CES last month. But unlike Apple, Qualcomm says it plans to extend the feature beyond emergency scenarios, where people will be able to send satellite messages for social purposes.
According to Roh, satellite communications are just one way to make mobile phones better help people communicate in emergency situations. He said Samsung has made other efforts to bring sense of security to people, such as improving the sensors in its phones and expanding 5G coverage. "I don't think this is the only solution to ensure users' peace of mind," he said. "
