Google and VMware begin to establish cooperation on cloud
CTOnews.com, February 4, Google Cloud seems to have launched a series of new partnerships with VMware. According to Google's open source blog statement, Google Cloud Engine customers can now choose to use VMWare ESXi as their underlying hypervisor, while previously they could only choose the open source KVM hypervisor.
Google explained that new users can "migrate [their] VMware-based recovery and backup workloads to the Google cloud to reduce management and storage costs while reducing risk, and they can continue to use the tools, processes and strategies that [they] use locally."
CTOnews.com learned that Google's "main partners" include Zerto, Dell, Veeam, Cohesity and NetApp. Google stressed that they have "certified incident recovery, backup and storage solutions that work seamlessly with the VMware engine".
Google is now randomly inviting some customers to try it, looking to save money by examining whether users can automate some of the current manual processes using infrastructure, or code.
Of course, a full release is expected to take several months, but developers and testers may use these tools in advance.
