The European Union has issued an antitrust warning to Microsoft over the Activision Blizzard deal.
CTOnews.com February 4 news, Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard seems to be facing more opposition. The European Union has issued a formal antitrust warning to Microsoft about the $68.7 billion deal, Politico reported.
Politico did not give exact details of the warning, but noted that in the statement of objection, EU officials "explained why the deal could threaten fair competition in the video game market."
"We are committed to the solution and find a way forward for this deal," said David Cuddy, a Microsoft spokesman. "We are listening carefully to [European Commission]'s concerns and believe we can solve them."
CTOnews.com has reported that the European Commission launched an "in-depth investigation" into the deal in November following a preliminary review in September.
"We must ensure that opportunities are available for the future and existing distributors of PC and console games, as well as for competing vendors of the PC operating system," Margaret Vestager, executive vice president of competition policy at the Commission, said in a statement.
In addition, the FTC decided to sue Microsoft in an attempt to block the deal.
