Vietnamese electric car maker VinFast delays delivery in the US market until late February
CTOnews.com, February 4 (Xinhua)-- Vietnamese electric car maker VinFast said it will postpone delivery to the first batch of customers in the United States until late February after completing vehicle updates with the latest software, Reuters reported.
The Vietnamese company, a subsidiary of the Vingroup JSC (VIC.HM) Group, is preparing to expand in the United States and will compete with other carmakers.
VinFast began shipping its first 999 electric vehicles (EV) in November last year, but has not yet delivered them in December, as originally planned.
"these cars have updated the latest software. We plan to deliver the first batch of VF8 models to customers in the second half of February," VinFast said in a statement. "the second batch will be shipped to the United States in the second quarter of 2023," without specifying the size of the second batch.
As of December last year, VinFast said it had received 55000 orders worldwide, of which 12000 were from the US market. In December, it delivered more than 4000 electric vehicles to customers in Vietnam, more than half of which were VF8 sports utility vehicles.
Following Tesla's similar plan, VinFast recently announced a new pricing promotion for the US market to protect the competitiveness of its models in the market.
CTOnews.com has learned that the Vietnamese carmaker plans to build an electric car plant in North Carolina and is awaiting final regulatory approval from local officials.
