CTOnews.com, February 6, according to DIGITIMES, Infineon, a German automotive semiconductor supplier, said on a recent conference call that the supply of automotive MCU is expected to improve in the second half of 2023 after obtaining more wafers.

Infineon reiterated the fragmentation of the semiconductor market, with demand for semiconductors in the automotive, renewable energy and security sectors remaining strong, while demand for consumer products slowed periodically and corporate spending on IT infrastructure was weak.

CTOnews.com learned that Infineon said that as electric travel and ADAS continued to grow, customers were now more willing to sign capacity retention agreements or place longer commitment orders to ensure the supply of semiconductors. OEMs now have a "strong tendency" to purchase strategic components directly and try to raise inventory levels.

To meet this demand, Infineon says it is increasing the rate of sales to nearly 1 million units a day. For fiscal year 2023, the production capacity of automotive products has been fully booked.

Despite seeing strong developments in the automotive and renewable energy sectors, Infineon remains cautious in the coming quarters, preparing for a macroeconomic slowdown caused by inflation in the context of higher interest rates.
