CTOnews.com, Feb. 7 (Reuters)-Italy's National Cyber Security Agency (ACN) issued a warning on Sunday that hackers have exploited VMware ESXi server vulnerabilities to launch blackmail software attacks on thousands of servers around the world, and warned organizations to take action to protect their systems.

ACN Director General Roberto Bardoni (Roberto Baldoni) told Reuters that the hackers launched a large-scale attack by exploiting a vulnerability in the VMware ESXi server. CTOnews.com read the report and found that in Italy alone, about 20 servers are attacked every hour, and dozens of organizations have become victims of large-scale cybercrime.

It is estimated that more than 500 companies will be affected in this large-scale attack, with French companies being the most affected. The vulnerability is numbered CVE-2021-21974 and the French National Government computer Security incident response team CERT-FR has confirmed that a semi-automatic attack can be carried out.

VMware officials have confirmed that the vulnerability in VMware dates back to early 2021, but a patch was released in February 2021 to fix it.
