CTOnews.com, Feb. 9-Apple blackened the Apple Turkish website this week to express its condolences for the victims of the earthquake. Apple also confirmed that it is contributing to disaster relief and recovery efforts in Turkey, Syria and any country affected by the earthquake.
Now when users visit the home page of Apple Turkey, they will see an all-black background and a ribbon to commemorate the Turkish people's attempt to recover from the terrible earthquake disaster. CTOnews.com learned that Apple had removed all marketing materials from its home page and chose to show only the ribbon.
It is important to note that Apple does not run the Apple Store online mall in Syria.
Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed Apple's support and condolences to people affected by the earthquake on Twitter on Monday. Cook also confirmed that Apple will donate money to relief and recovery efforts, as it often does after natural disasters.
The New York Times reported that the death toll from earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 17000. The first quake on Monday, with a magnitude of 7.8, was officially classified as a "major earthquake", followed by another 7.5-magnitude quake. And in the days that followed, aftershocks continued.
