Amazon announces it will shoot "Shadow Spider-Man" live-action series for Sony
CTOnews.com Feb. 10-Amazon says it's working on a live-action Spider-Man Noir series, Variety reports. It will be set in the "1930s" and feature "an older, grey-haired superhero in New York City" rather than Peter Parker, according to reports.
The series was created by Spider-Man: Parallel Universes (2018) producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Orizen Uzier.
Shadow Spider-Man is more brutal and deadly than Peter Parker's version of Spider-Man, first appearing in the 2009 Marvel comic book of the same name (set in 1933) as a vigilante dedicated to fighting crime in the New York underworld during the Great Depression.
It is worth mentioning that Shadow Spider-Man has guest starred in several Spider-Man titles, such as the 2010 game Spider-Man: Broken Dimensions, the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man, and more recently Spider-Man: Parallel Universes (Shadow Spider-Man voiced by Nicholas Cage), as well as the less successful Dr. Night.
This means Sony is broadening the scope of its Spider-Man universe (CTOnews.com: Sony has more than 900 character IPs related to the Spider-Man series), such as previous spin-offs such as Venom and Spider-Man: Parallel Universe, which have been popular with audiences, and more are expected to emerge.
The yet-to-be-named Spider-Man series will be Amazon's second project based on Sony-controlled Marvel superheroes after the upcoming "Spider Silk: Spider Society"(Korean-American female Spider-Man, a classmate of Peter Parker).
