Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, February 12 (Reuters)-Intel is considering significantly increasing its existing $1.5 billion (currently about 10.215 billion yuan) investment in Vietnam to expand its chip testing and packaging plant in Vietnam, according to two people familiar with the matter. The move, which could be worth about $1 billion (currently about 6.81 billion yuan), marks Vietnam's growing role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
One of the sources said the investment could be made "in the next few years" and could even exceed $1 billion (currently about 6.81 billion yuan). Intel is also considering alternative investments in Singapore and Malaysia, which may be more popular than Vietnam, another source said.
Asked about possible investment plans, Intel responded: "Vietnam is an important part of our global manufacturing network, but we have not yet announced any new investments."
The chip packaging and testing plant located in the commercial center of southern Vietnam is Intel's largest chip packaging and testing plant in the world. CTOnews.com has learned that Intel is estimated to have invested about $1.5 billion in it so far.
