CTOnews.com, February 13, the latest Omdia data show that the number of Internet-connected households with network speeds of 1Gbps or above has increased rapidly in the two years to 2023, from 6300 million in 2021 to 169 million in 2023.

The report points out that the further popularity of meta-universe and AR / VR applications in the public will change consumers' habits. These applications require excellent broadband quality and low latency connections to operate properly and achieve the desired results.

Omdia said that gigabit broadband has now become the mainstream of the advanced broadband market. As consumers are used to expecting fast, reliable, high-quality and low-latency connection services, consumer gigabit broadband users will nearly quadruple between 2021 and 2023. However, operators need to carefully consider the market demand when formulating a gigabit strategy, and pay attention to the quality of experience (QoE) while focusing on speed.

In terms of gigabit broadband, Omdia said that by 2023, only 54% of households in the world have a fixed broadband connection at home, and only 7% of households enjoy gigabit broadband speeds. CTOnews.com learned that most gigabit connected households are concentrated in North America, Western Europe, Oceania, East and Southeast Asia.
